Intra AI and Microsoft Copilot
Copilot is a good product. It simply answers a different question from Intra AI. This page says which – including where Copilot comes out ahead.
| Comparison | Intra AI | Microsoft Copilot |
|---|---|---|
| Prerequisite | Runs independently of your Office licences and can sit alongside Microsoft 365. | Requires Microsoft 365 plus an additional Copilot licence per user. |
| Operations and data residency | A dedicated instance per customer, operated by us – or in your own data centre if you need that. Development, data storage and AI inference in Germany. | Runs in the Microsoft cloud. Where data sits follows your Microsoft agreement. |
| Models | Open-weight models only, run by us in Germany. Your administrators decide which are offered and pin one per agent. | Mostly OpenAI models, now alongside other providers. Which ones are on offer is Microsoft’s decision. |
| Sources outside the Microsoft world | Microsoft 365 as well as Google Workspace, GitHub, GitLab and FILERO. Further systems with a documented interface are built as a dedicated integration. | Very strong inside its own product family. Anything outside it is project work. |
| Your own agents | Agents are built visually, stay a draft until published, are versioned, and can be restricted to individual permitted actions. | Agents can be built with Copilot Studio, under its own licensing terms. |
| Who you talk to | Two founders in Munich. Support Monday to Friday, 9:00 to 17:00, by email, video call and phone. | Support through your Microsoft partner or Microsoft support. |
| Contract and exit | Data export in JSON, CSV or XML within 14 days, with no exit fee. Term and notice periods are set out in our terms. | Terms follow your existing Microsoft agreement. |
Details of Microsoft 365 Copilot are taken from Microsoft’s own product and licensing documentation, as at August 2026. Your Microsoft agreement always takes precedence.
When Copilot is the better choice
If your company runs entirely on Microsoft 365, has no intention of connecting systems outside it, and is comfortable with where data sits in the Microsoft cloud, Copilot is the shorter path: it already lives in Word, Excel and Outlook, and your people do not have to open anything new. Intra AI earns its place when your requirements on data residency and traceability go further, when you need to connect systems beyond Microsoft, or when you want to decide for yourself which model answers. Plenty of companies run both side by side, and that is a sound decision rather than a half-measure.
